46 – Living and training with Type 1 Diabetes with Brendan Snyder

“You can’t really start making strides forward until you start telling yourself that maybe [having Type 1 Diabetes] makes you stronger, or maybe you wouldn’t be the person you are [without it]. Looking back on 13 years of diabetes, I don’t think I would be physically where I am, or mentally where I am if I wasn’t diagnosed. So, in a weird roundabout way, I appreciate the fact that I got it.” – Brendan Synder

When Brendan was 11 years old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. From trying to live like a regular teenager, to balancing Type 1 while playing college rugby, and his current pursuit of qualifying for the CrossFit Games regionals, Brendan provides a snapshot into the challenges of daily life and training with Type 1 Diabetes. Brendan received his BSN from Keene State College where he was also the captain of the rugby team. Brendan began his CrossFit journey at Feral Fitness in Saratoga Spring, NY. He currently lives in Memphis, TN where he works as an RN on the medical specialty unit at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and trains at CrossFit Hit and Run.
